Job Title:
Industrial Maintenance Mechanic

Summary:
This entry-level role provides foundational training in industrial mechanical maintenance, preparing individuals to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to advance toward a Journeyman level proficiency.

Provides machinery repair and maintenance services for a wide range of equipment across the plant using multiple tools and techniques. Performs preventative maintenance and start-to-finish repair projects, troubleshooting, performance measurement and fine-tuning.

This is a non-exempt Union position. The starting pay for this position is $33.11.

Responsibilities Include:
    \n
  • Effectively and concisely troubleshoot equipment upsets/abnormalities.
  • \n
  • Assist with the repair and maintenance of production machinery and equipment using hand tools, power tools, etc.
  • \n
  • Learn and perform maintenance and repair of production machinery and equipment malfunctions across all areas and in all stages of the process using hand tools, power tools, etc.:
      \n
    • Examine machinery and listen for irregular sounds to identify the source of malfunctions, applying appropriate troubleshooting techniques.
    • \n
    • Dismantle machines and equipment using hand and power tools
    • \n
    • Measure and cut thread and replace piping, flanges, etc.
    • \n
    • Assemble and test-run machines and equipment
    • \n
    • Operate metal working tools such as lathe and drill press
    • \n
    • Measure and correct shaft misalignment
    • \n
    • Maintain production machinery and equipment, performing tasks such as replacing gaskets, packing and mechanical seals, bearings, etc.
    • \n
    • Replace bearing using hand and power tools
    • \n
    • Repair gearboxes and compressors
    • \n
    • Make on-the-job measurements using instruments such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.
    • \n
    • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic/pneumatic system malfunctions

  • \n
  • Follow and comply with Quality Maintenance Material Guidelines.
  • \n
  • Update equipment records by submitting work order comments, stores modification, etc.
  • \n
  • Perform specified equipment inspection, compare findings with acceptance criteria and document findings.
  • \n
  • Perform predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance.
  • \n
  • Coordinate and/or perform housekeeping and safety monitoring and ensure adequate follow-up, as required.
  • \n
  • Follow all Standard Operating and Business Procedures, Safety, Environmental, and Quality Guidelines, Plant Standards and Codes including the development of Procedures in job classification.
  • \n
  • Safely assist with other maintenance craftwork when needed.
  • \n
  • Participate in area and business improvement activities, quality, mechanical integrity, and environmental, health, and safety (EHS) compliance activities.
  • \n
  • Train and guide other employees in the assigned areas and receive training as necessary.
  • \n
  • Participate in teams and group based activities focused on continuous improvements, consistent with Management and Contractual needs and objectives.
  • \n
  • Participate and provide input, on a voluntary basis, into Manager and Leader/Supervisor annual performance evaluations through anonymous processes consistent with contractual requirements.
  • \n
  • Properly fill, label, and position all hazardous and non-hazardous waste in identified storage/pickup areas.
  • \n
  • Enter, retrieve, document, communicate, and analyze data (i.e., process, inventory, maintenance, quality, safety, environmental, etc.), using computer application programs (i.e., Profs, TSW). New application programs are planned and would be part of this job.
  • \n
  • Understand, initiate, review, approve, and apply change control.
  • \n
  • Perform other tasks as necessary within skills and training to support the manufacturing and sale of products.

Qualifications:

The following are required for the role
    \n
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • \n
  • 3-5 years relevant work experience installing and maintaining mechanical equipment.
  • \n
  • Written and verbal skills to communicate and applicable math skills.
  • \n
  • Ability to pass a qualifying test demonstrating foundational skills and knowledge within the craft.
  • \n
  • Ability to achieve and maintain journeyman status in machinery repair craft trade expertise and maintenance services.
  • \n
  • Knowledge of mechanical techniques, methods, and procedures including, but not limited to:
      \n
    • Read blueprints
    • \n
    • Machining tools
    • \n
    • Vibration analysis and computer alignment
    • \n
    \n
  • \n
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and solve mechanical problems from experience and knowledge of the equipment as well as knowledge of what resources are available for troubleshooting and where to get them.
  • \n
  • Proficiency in the use of maintenance crafts equipment and tools and material handling equipment such as, but not limited to: marklift, hand tools, power tools, test equipment, etc. as required.
  • \n
  • Knowledge and application of safety, environmental, maintenance and quality guidelines, standards, codes, and procedures.
  • \n
  • Ability to effectively utilize computers and supporting business system software.
  • \n
  • Valid drivers license required to drive a plant transport vehicle (i.e., automobile/van, pickup truck, flatbed).
  • \n
  • Ability to work heights and in enclosed spaces.
  • \n
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position, with or without accommodation.
  • \n
  • Must have satisfactory work record.
  • \n

  • Degree or Certification in Mechanic and/or Machinist craft
  • \n
  • General knowledge of chemicals and their general properties.
  • \n
  • Ability to train and guide other employees in the assigned areas.
  • \n
  • Prior experience in manufacturing environments
  • \n
