Job Description

ALA Studio is a full service architecture and interior design firm that emphasizes deep listening and hands-on collaboration with clients throughout the design process. Founded in 2017 by Alda Ly, our NYC based studio serves clients worldwide who are looking to rethink traditional hospitality, health and wellness, workplace, and retail spaces, whether they are established organizations or startups and entrepreneurs. We are proudly a certified Minority & Woman-owned Business Enterprise (M/WBE) in NYC and NY state.

Our team is small but mighty, and built around a collective desire to create thoughtful, innovative designs for projects we care about. We specialize in workplace, hospitality, retail, health and wellness spaces of all scales—often with clients who have unique visions and are doing things that have never been done before.

We’ve got a number of exciting projects on tap, and are looking for someone ready to step in right away: a Project Manager / Designer (on a contract basis), for our commercial interiors projects. Our ideal candidate is kind, resourceful, organized, an incredible communicator, has a sophisticated design sensibility, and most importantly, someone who is comfortable managing & leading small to medium projects and executing a cohesive design vision from concept to punchlist. This person should have solid experience working in Revit with Enscape and have completed projects through all design, permitting and construction phases. She/he/they should be someone who is looking to have ownership and responsibility from day one and is interested in becoming an integral part of a growing team.

If this is you, please reach out and consider bringing your talents to our studio!

  • Responsible for creating workplans, tracking project budget and schedule
  • Responsible for day-to-day communication and interfacing with, as well as presentations to, clients
  • Responsible for development of design concept, user-experience journeys, diagraming, & mood boards
  • Produce and execute project deliverables including project presentations, SD/DD/CD drawing sets, project schedules, and specifications.
  • Produce Permit sets & coordinate the Landlord review and DOB application process when required
  • Responsible for reviewing shop drawings, drafting RFI responses, and providing clarification sketches as needed during Construction Administration
  • Responsible for selecting, procuring, and managing orders and installation for furniture and decorative lighting
  • Help drive unique, creative solutions to unique design problems

Qualifications:

  • 5-8 post-degree years of relevant experience at an architecture or design office, including experience on DD/CD/CA phases for interior architecture projects
  • Comfort with multi-tasking and collaboration within a context of fast-paced projects
  • Organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and willing to take on a variety of tasks
  • Excellent English language communication and client-facing skills
  • Work examples that demonstrate, in addition to technical detail, a sophisticated design sensibility
  • MUST have experience and strong proficiency in Revit and Enscape. Extensive experience with both construction documents and family creation in Revit will be expected for this position. If you do not have a strong skill set in these areas, please do not apply.
  • Adobe Creative Suite, Google Suite, Excel knowledge is also required
  • Experience with FF&E sourcing and specification
  • Familiarity with NYC building codes and DOB permitting process
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States, without need for employer sponsorship
